Sixth Grade Math Essential Skills Quarter Three: Expressions, Equations, and Inequalities
Parents- Helpful Notes for you!
- Students have a math folder that they can choose to keep in the room or take with them.
- Students will be given both short term and long term (approximately a week) homework to prepare them for high school, college and beyond. Homework assignments will appear in red on my website. Homework will never be given on Friday and due on Monday because I want them to also enjoy their down time and family time. A homework assignment that is given on a Friday will not be due until Tuesday. This also allows me to remind them on Monday. Except for long term homework, there will be time in class to get started and super efficient students may even get it completed and placed back into their math folder so they are ready for the next day.
- There will be lots of group work. We will do lots of partner work and table work and occasional project work. Sometimes their partner or group will depend on where they sit, sometimes I will choose their partner or group, and sometimes the students will be allowed to pick their own partners. The ability to work with others is a critical success skill.
- I like to keep up on my grading, so your students grades in Skyward will be as current as I can possibly keep them. This allows you and I both to see problems quickly and take care of them promptly.
- I am available most days after school for a quiet place to complete homework or additional help (not just math). You or your student may make arrangements for your student to stay. If your student stays I will ask them if they have your permission to stay. Students and parents must make arrangements for walking, riding the 4:30 Tuesday/Thursday activity bus, or calling for a ride home. Students not riding the activity bus may leave any time they are finished or need to. A phone is available in the classroom or they may use their cell phones to directly communicate with you after school hours.
- I teach all day long, so it is extremely hard to get ahold of me during the school day. Please feel free to leave me a message that I will return after school or email me at [email protected]. I will probably get to an email faster.
